Obesity rates in the United States are still sky-high, but for the moment they appear to have stopped climbing higher, according to new data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
One out of every three American adults is obese, and two out of every three are overweight, according to the data. Among children and teens, the numbers aren't much better: Roughly 17 percent of children between the ages of 2 and 19 are considered obese. All of these percentages have increased sharply since 1980, the data show.
The obesity rate among women and children hasn't changed measurably over the past decade, however, and it has remained largely flat among men for the past five years, according to the CDC report, which was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Losing weight is a very tricky subject, what works for one person may or may not work for another. In twenty years of working with people... I can tell you that there is one underlying thread that determines whether or not you will lose weight. I can assure your with 100% accuracy that working out hard is not necessarily the answer. Our normal mentality is harder is better, but that is not so with weight loss. You don't have to torture yourself with extreme fitness programs and diets, it's not necessary...
I have often shared a simple technique with many of my clients... those who follow this golden rule lose weight, those who do not-- don't. The reason people often fail to follow the golden rule is that it is too simple; most people cannot believe it to be true. I save serviced over 25,000 personal training sessions in my career and if you were to ask me; if there was only one thing that you could do to give you the absolute best results--what would that be.
Answer: Walking, that's right just walk 20-minutes a day on most days of the week. That's at least five days a week, so in order to get five days you'll need to shoot for six or seven. Why you might ask... well you'll miss from time to time, the extra days will make up the days you miss, this will help keep your averages up.
But wait there's a catch, walking has to be the underlying thread of your exercise program. Let me explain, walking + no exercise program = no weight loss. Exercise + no walking program = no weight loss. Walking + exercise program = tremendous weight loss!
